NROTC New Student Orientation could be intense. It was a mini-boot camp for the first few days. I've been screamed at (and in reply have screamed at) real-live Marine Corps gunnery and staff sergeants. I even caught some spit to the face. I'm in Marine ROTC, and I don't look forward to the many challenges it presents...so far, I've not even been really an ideal candidate, but I've not got a scholarship and I'm still here, while there are those who DID have scholarships that dropped before the first week! I swore in yesterday, so as of then, I'm not certain I can even call myself a civilian anymore. I am a midshipman, 4th class!
The NROTC unit is a family. We look out for, reminisce with, laugh with, and take pride with each other. Also, most of us are on the same floor of the same dorm hall, so that's pretty cool. The unit's officers seem like respectable people and mentors whom I can look up to, so that's a blessing. There are all sorts of funny stories I can tell from New Student Orientation "boot camp", so those of you with facebooks can look me up sometime (if you're reading this, you likely know who I am in some way, shape, or form already) and ask. Now that I'm a midshipman, especially, everything I do reflects on the unit and the Navy/Marine Corps as a whole. For God and country!
College scares me, but that doesn't mean I'm not still pursuing my gaming "career". I recently picked up a little something called Majesty 2.
What is it?
Take Final Fantasy. You play a party of heroes, exploring the world, getting treasure, visiting towns, buying gear, defeating monsters and saving the world.
Now, reverse the formula. No, this doesn't mean that you're playing a party of evildoers out to doom the world. It means that instead of being the questing heroes, you play as the local ruler, and it is your task to build cities, hire heroes, furnish the shops, and give those heroes quests to accomplish (usually in the form of bounties for tasks completed).
So yeah, role reversal. How does it sound?

Once I read that, the sun shone brighter than ever.
